THE MARTINEZ BROTHERS

Cuttin' Headz Homecoming: an insight into the brothers' New York artistic inspiration.

In the last ten years, The Martinez Brothers have steam-rolled through the world of house and techno. Hailing from the Bronx and still in their mid-20s, they’ve been labelled the “number one DJs in the world” by Mixmag, had a headline residency at CircoLoco in Ibiza, and set up a vinyl-only record label, Tuskegee, with long time collaborator Seth Troxler.

But it was the launch of their own carefully curated record label, Cuttin Headz, in 2014 that cemented them as cultural flag bearers for New York music. With an exclusive focus on artists that hail from their city, the label has become a home for everything from house to techno to hip-hop, with releases from Nic Fanciulli, Steve Lawler, Luna City Express and more.

In October 2016, New Era collaborated with the pair to design a limited edition cap and jacket for the brothers’ label. Cuttin Headz is inspired greatly by New York graffiti culture, and this was reflected in the collection which incorporated comic styling and illustrative influences on a sleek colour palette of black and gold. The collection was released alongside a short film exploring The Martinez Brothers’ upbringing and influences.
